A picture-in-picture effect is when two videos or images are shown at the same time with one smaller video or image on top of a larger one. You can use this picture-in-picture effect to insert an additional video or image into your main video to help you further illustrate or highlight parts of your story.
To add a picture-in-picture effect:
- First, Go to Insert tab on the ribbon, Click Video dropdown button to select main video that will imported
- Click select Video button again to import the image or video (that you want to be the smaller one on top) and place it on a track above the clip in the main video.
Select the clip in the secondary track and resize or edit it just like you would edit any other video clip. Some edits you can make:
- Reposition the picture-in-picture clip: Drag the picture-in-picture window in the Canvas.
- Resize the picture-in-picture clip: Drag any of the clip’s corners in the Canvas.
- Sometimes, you may need to crop the picture-in-picture video to make it symmetrical. To crop the video, select it > click the Crop button in the Properties pane > Size & Properties > Crop. Then, a red border will appear on the video. Drag the handles to specify the cropping area > click the Crop button again.
Besides, SmartTutor 360 allows you to crop the video to shape. To do that, select the video > Format tab, or right-click the video > Crop to Shape > select a shape
